STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) - Portage County deputies will be leading a pair of classes to help teach people how to legally carry a concealed weapon.
Detective Wayne Kropidlowski says it's important to get the proper training for Concealed Carry. "If they're choosing to carry a concealed weapon, it's important to know the pros and cons of carrying and how to do it legally." This is the second year the department is offering the course, and they're adding a session on basic handgun safety as well.
Kropidlowski says the classes help build trust with the community. "We've had good rapport with the community and excellent feedback, and we've found we've had no problem filling our classes." Last year's courses were so popular they had to add extra classes just to accommodate everyone.
The two courses are currently set for Saturday, October 26 starting at 8am. Kropidlowski says they're putting out the word early because the class filled up quickly last year.
The CCW class will run $40 dollars a student, and the safety course is $25 dollars. If you take both classes, it will only cost $50.
