PHELPS, Wis. (WSAU) - A bond hearing was held Tuesday for the former Phelps School District janitor accused of looking up child pornography on school computers.
61-year-old Richard Buell appeared in Vilas County court, where the judge set a $10,000 cash bond.
Formal charges have not been filed yet, but investigators are recommending 78 counts of possession of child pornography.
Vilas County investigators have been working with the state crime lab to analyse the evidence, which was accessed on the school’s computer network. Investigators and school officials say the students and teachers were not exposed to any harm, and they remain safe.
A tentative initial appearance on the still-unfiled charges is scheduled for Friday.
