WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) -- The former basketball coach convicted of a sex crime against a teenaged girl will spend ten years in prison.

That sentence handed down Friday for 56-year-old Rory McKellips. McKellips was found guilty of using a computer device to facilitate a sex crime, but not guilty of two charges alleging repeated sexual assault of a 15-year-old and exposing his genitals.

The former Mosinee and Athens coach admitted buying a prepaid cellphone for the teenaged victim and communicating with her frequently until the girl’s parents intervened.

After the trial, McKellips and his wife Constance were charged with perjury for lying to the court, but the charges were tossed out by Judge Michael Moran, but Moran did consider the perjury allegations during Friday’s sentencing.

Rory McKellips must register as a sex offender.
