WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Wausau police are investigating how a number of guns ended up on the ice under the Bridge Street bridge.
A call came into dispatch early Saturday morning from a walker who reported seeing the weapons out on the ice. Lieutenant Michael Juedes says they hadn't been there long. "From the lack of snow on top of the firearms, and some snow underneath, we think they'd been out there for a day or so."
All of the guns were older shotguns and long rifles. Juedes says they probably weren't taken from a gun shop. "We're assuming it's probably from a burglary or two." Several burglaries have taken place in Wausau over the past few months with a number of guns and rifles stolen, and police are now trying to determine who the original owners of the guns are.
Detectives are investigating, and Juedes says more information will be available on Monday.
