WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- It's a great Christmas present to snowmobilers from the parks department.
The snowmobile trails in Marathon County open up Christmas morning at 8 am. Snowmobile Coordinator John Daniels says they've got good snow conditions for sleds right now. "Trails are opening to snowmobiles only on Wednesday. Depending on trail conditions, we generally estimate that 10 days after they open to snowmobiles they will open, or the majority will open to ATVs."
Two segments of the trail will remain closed for now, and both are in the northeast section of the county. "There are two short segments that will not be open due to a couple issues, but we anticipate those will be open in the near future." Daniels says the two trails are near the county lines with Shawano and Antigo.
A number of trail intersections have also been renumbered this season. Daniels recommends all riders pick up new maps this year. They're available at the Parks building at River Drive in Wausau, or online at the park department's website.
