MERRILL, Wis (WSAU) A dog that was found tied to a highway sign in bitter cold weather last month did not survive the ordeal.
The Lincoln County Humane Society says that the dog they'd nicknamed 'Scout' has to be put to sleep. He's survived being tied to a mile marker along Highway 51 on January 21st. The dog was able to recover, and several families asked about adopting him. But the humane society says Scout was overly aggressive, and tried to bite people when he was around them. It's likely the animal was abused. He was put to sleep earlier this week.
It's still not clear who originally owned the dog. The Lincoln County sheriffs department is investigating the case.
