Public hearing tonight on waterfowl hunting rules at Mead Wildlife Area

MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) - Hunters and DNR officials will have a chance to discuss a set of temporary rule changes to waterfowl hunting at the Mead Wildlife Area tonight.

The temporary rules went into effect in 2010 and will now be reviewed. “These regulations were produced and recommended by central Wisconsin waterfowl hunters and outdoor enthusiasts who attended meetings in 2007 and 2008 to discuss ways to improve the overall waterfowling experience on the Mead Wildlife Area,” said Brian Peters, wildlife supervisor at Mead.

Those new rules include the prohibition of early waterfowl seasons on the property, some early closures to the hunt during the first two weeks of the season, and some relief for the waterfowl in between hunting cycles.

Peters says hunters will have a chance to talk about the effect the rules have had on hunting, and if they want to keep them into effect.

That meeting starts tonight at 6 pm at the Mead Visitor's Center on County Road S.
