Fleeing felon with firearm sentenced

STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) - The Stevens Point man who fled officers and tried to throw away a weapon is going to prison. 26-year-old Timothy M. Conway was accused of refusing to pull over during a traffic stop, fleeing the officer, and tossing a 9 millimeter handgun while eluding officers.

Conway wasn’t caught until after a brief foot chase. He also wasn’t supposed to have a weapon, since he has previous felony convictions.

Portage County Judge Thomas Flugar sentenced Conway to concurrent terms totalling three years in prison followed by five years of extended supervision. He must also successfully complete aftercare treatment for drug and alcohol addiction and maintain absolute sobriety. If Conway is issued a driver’s license in the future, the vehicle must have an ignition interlock preventing use if he’s intoxicated.
