Stettin Elementary expansion set for board vote Monday

WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -  Wausau’s school board may move forward with a Stettin Elementary expansion project Monday night. The board is expected to vote on the $700,000 project, which would add two more classrooms to the crowded elementary building.

School officials say they won’t have to cut programs, borrow money, or go to referendum since they have enough to cover it in the fund balance. That fund balance has about 18-million dollars now, and is what the district regularly uses to cover expenses while waiting for state aid dollars to arrive.

School officials say the Stettin space situation needs immediate attention. The rest of the district’s space needs are being studied as part of a long term plan.
