MADISON, WI (WSAU) Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez says his football team and others in the Big Ten will stop playing non-conference games against former Division One-Double-“A” schools.

On a Madison radio show last night, Alvarez said the Big Ten’s non-conference schedule is quote, “ridiculous … and it’s not very appealing.” He said the schools agreed to schedule future games only against fellow Division-One opponents, with no more dates with Football Championship Subdivision schools.

The Badgers have one of those teams on its schedule for this fall – Tennessee Tech on September seventh. They’ll also play Massachusetts, which moved to up to Division-One last year in football.

A few years ago, F-C-S team Appalachian State upset Michigan. And Wisconsin would have lost to One-Double-“A” Cal Poly had that team’s kicker not missed three extra points – including one in overtime.
