MARQUETTE, MI (UWSP) - The UW-Stevens Point softball team beat Carroll College in game one Saturday, 8-2, then beat Edgewood College in comeback fashion, 8-4. UWSP got the scoring started against Carroll in the second inning as Kendall Nelson (Tomahawk, WI/Tomahawk) had an RBI single to knock in Alicia Hahnemann (Appleton, WI/West).Nelson later scored on an error by the pitcher to give the Pointers a 2-0 lead. The Pointers posted four more runs in the fourth inning as Paige Meulemans (Appleton, WI/Kimberly) singled to plate Jordon Schreiner (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) and Katie Krueger (Plover, WI/SPASH). Hahnemann came up and belted a two-run home run, giving UWSP a 6-0 lead. Kali Riddell (Bloomington, IL/University) dominated for the second consecutive day, striking out 10 batters and allowing just five hits and no earned runs. Hahnemann led the Pointers at the plate with the home run, a single and two RBIs. GAME TWO:In game two the Pointers came back from a 4-0 deficit and scored eight unanswered runs to beat Edgewood, 8-4. Edgewood plated a run in the first inning and added three more runs in the top of the fourth to take the 4-0 advantage heading into the bottom frame. In the bottom half of the fourth Krueger belted a two-run home run to cut the deficit in half. In the fifth inning the Pointer bats exploded for six runs to secure the win. Riddell picked up the win on the mound, allowing just three hits and striking out four in 5 1/3 innings of work. UWSP (3-1) will face Milwaukee School of Engineering and Concordia – Wisconsin Sunday afternoon to close out the weekend.
