Ex-Doyle administration chief Morgan leaving UW post

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Former Doyle administration chief Michael Morgan will leave his current post in July as the UW’s senior vice president for administration and fiscal affairs.

Morgan was given a three-year temporary term in the post, and was a candidate for the job on a permanent basis. But instead, the post will go David Miller, who’s now the UW System’s associate vice president for capital planning and budgeting.

Morgan’s appointment was controversial from the get go.

Assembly Colleges Committee chair Steve Nass accused the university of throwing a life raft to Morgan, as he walked out the door at the Capitol a few months before Doyle did.

More recently, Nass said Morgan should be accountable for problems in the UW’s new centralized Human Resources System. It was recently learned that two-year-old system overpaid university employees $30 million more in pension and health care benefits than what they were entitled to.

In announcing Miller’s promotion, President Kevin Reilly said Morgan would spend his final months trying to resolve the snafu.
