ST GERMAIN, WI (WSAU) -  A Morton, Illinois woman is dead after a snowmobile crash in Vilas County New Year’s Eve. Oneida County Sheriff’s Department officials say the 40-year-old was alone on the snowmobile and failed to negotiate a curve. She rolled down an embankment, and later died of severe internal injuries. Her sled landed on top of her. Investigators say alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Her name will be released after relatives are notified.

On Tuesday a snowmobiler broke through thin ice in Three Lakes. It happened on Long Lake Channel as a man from the Chicago area strayed off a marked path. The Oneida County dive team responded, but the man was able to get out of the water on his own as help was arriving. His name hasn’t been released, and he’s expected to recover.
