Woodson ok'ed to play in Saturday playoff game

GREEN BAY (WSAU)  Charles Woodson has been medically-cleared to play for the Green Bay Packers in their Wild Card home game against Minnesota on Saturday night. The 15-year safety-and-corner practiced with the Number-One defense yesterday for the first time since he broke his collarbone on October 21st against Saint Louis. Coach Mike McCarthy says it will help the Packers just to have Woodson playing again. And his teammates are fired up about it. Safety Morgan Burnett says Woodson is excited and ready – and that’s getting Burnett excited as well.

Among other things, the Packers hope Woodson can help cut into Adrian Peterson’s production. The Vikings’ running back had 409 yards on the ground in his two games against Green Bay during the regular season, including 199 in the Packers’ loss at Minneapolis last Sunday. McCarthy said his defense might have overplayed Peterson, while falling short in other parts of their run coverage. The coach said Peterson is a dynamic player, but the Packers must focus on themselves.

Meanwhile, receiver Jordy Nelson sat out of yesterday’s practice. McCarthy wouldn’t say what the problem was. But Nelson hurt a knee in the fourth quarter last Sunday, before returning to make a two-yard touchdown catch.
