MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - More people were killed in Milwaukee last year than in 2011.

But officials say the numbers are still lower than in some previous years.

Wisconsin’s largest city had 92 homicides in 2012 – five more than the year before. But Police Chief Ed Flynn said last year’s murders were down by 11 percent from 2007 and 31 percent from 2000. And there were 43 percent fewer homicides last year than in 1990.

Flynn said everyday street killings need to be considered when state and federal officials decide what to do about gun violence.

Flynn also said there’s been a positive impact from what Milwaukee Police have been able to do to cut down on homicides.
