RHINELANDER, WI (WXPR)  -  The Oneida County Medical Examiner's office has seen an uptick recently in the number of autopsies needed.

At a county meeting last week, Medical Examiner Larry Mathein says the number of calls has risen in both Oneida and Forest county. Forest county contracts with Oneida county for Mathein's services.

The committee asked why the costs had risen and Mathein says the number of calls has gone up. Mathein says to do a thorough job a full autopsy is usually run when they can't easily determine a cause of death. He says they have had at least four autopsies since the beginning of the year, including a death in the Forest county jail. He says three of four suicides were caused by people using guns.

Mathein says there were 138 calls in 2012 in Oneida county and 21 autopsy's, 32 calls in Forest county last year and 10 autopsies.
