Prayer-parents to begin jail time soon

WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU)   Now that the state Supreme Court has upheld the convictions of Weston prayer-parents Dale and Leilani Neumann, prosecutors are filing the paperwork to begin their jail sentences. The Neumanns were convicted of second-degree reckless homicide for praying over their dying diabetic daughter instead of taking her to a doctor.

They were sentenced to 30-days in jail and ten years probation. The jail time will be spread out over a 6-year period and will be staggered so one parent will be free to care for the family's other children. Prosecutors can file a motion to begin the jail time once the Supreme Court releases the paperwork on last week's ruling. The Neumanns could still appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, but there's no guarantee the justices would hear the case.

A new judge in Marathon County court will be assigned to oversee the case. The original judge Vincent Howard is retired. Lamont Jacobson, his replacement, was the prosecutor in the case.
