WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WSAU) - The Marshfield man accused of murdering his girlfriend wants to withdraw his guilty plea. 21-year-old Gabriel Campos is accused of killing Maisie McCullough in a Marshfield home they shared last September.
Campos told Wood County Judge Todd Wolf he wants to withdraw his plea, and that his public defenders did not have his best interest at heart. Campos fired his defense team of Kate Frigo and David Dickmann. The court appointed Jeffrey Jazgar as the new counselor last week. Jazgar and District Attorney Craig Lambert agreed Tuesday to have a motions hearing Monday, July 22nd.
McCullough died of multiple stab wounds, including a five-inch cut across her neck. She also had stab wounds to her torso and left hand.
Campos was scheduled to be sentenced for the homicide August 5th. He and the victim had a son together.
