CHICAGO (WTAQ) - A Milwaukee pastor was expected to be released from a hospital Monday morning, after he and 13 church members were injured in a weekend freeway crash in Chicago.
Officials said the group was heading home from a funeral when a car side-swiped a van belonging to Holy Temple First-born Missionary Baptist Church on Milwaukee’s north side.
Pastor Lezar Burnside was driving the van, and his wife was among the passengers.
Deacon Mitchell Campbell said Burnside and his 17-month-old granddaughter had the most serious injuries. They were the only ones still in the hospital when a service at their church began Sunday.
The service went on as planned. The Illinois State Police are still investigating.
