GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Shopko is plannning to open three new “Hometown” stores in Wisconsin by the end of the year.
The discount department store chain that’s based in Green Bay said the new stores would open in Tomahawk, Ellsworth, and Winneconne. In addition, two others are planned in Minnesota and Wyoming.
The “Hometown” stores are smaller versions of traditional ShopKo stores. They’re located mainly in smaller communities.
The “ShopKo Hometown” stores popped up throughout Wisconsin last year, after ShopKo bought out Pamida – which specialized in small-town department stores.
There are now 176 Hometown stores.
ShopKo also runs 134 full-sized stores throughout the country – along with 17 ShopKo stand-alone pharmacies and five Shopko-Express pharmacy stores.
