MILWAUKEE, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) The Brewers have signed their top draft pick, Missouri high school pitcher Devin Williams. Baseball America says the right-hander is getting a signing bonus of just over one-and-a-third million dollars. That’s more than the one-point-one-million-dollar target assigned by Major League Baseball for a player in Williams’ draft position.
He was the 54th player taken in the second round. Milwaukee lost its first-round pick this year when it signed veteran right-hander Kyle Lohse near the end of Spring Training. Williams bypassed a scholarship offer at the University of Missouri, which is perhaps the reason for the higher signing bonus.
He’ll report to the Brewers’ spring training facility in Phoenix.
