WAUSAU, Wisc (WSAU)   An 11- year-old boy was rescued from the Wisconsin River last night in Wausau.

The incident happened around 630pm. The boy was trying to cross the river when he broke through ice near River Drive. Someone on land hear him calling out for help and dialed 9-1-1.

The boy managed to get out of the waste-deep water and was clinging to a rock when help arrived. The Wausau Fire Department was able to get him out of the river. He was taken by ambulance to Wausau Aspirus Hospital. His name has not been released.
