Snowmobile fatalities up to 18 in Wisconsin

JANESVILLE, WI (WSAU) - Two separate incidents have led to two more snowmobile fatalities.

A Beloit man died when his snowmobile hit open water on Lake Koshkonong. Rock County Sheriff's Department investigators say 47-year-old Willie A. Guzman died after after he drove into the water early Saturday. His riding companion also went into the lake, but he was able to get out of the water and seek help. He told authorities the darkness and fog left them both disoriented.

The other fatal accident happened Saturday near Mercer. Iron County and The Department of Natural Resources say one snowmobiler crested a hill on a public trail and landed on top of an oncoming snowmobiler.

These deaths bring the number of snowmobile fatalities in Wisconsin up to 18 this season.
