HOFFMAN ESTATES, ILL (WSAU) The Wisconsin women upset Illinois 58-to-57 yesterday in the first round of their Big Ten Tournament near Chicago. Morgan Paige made two free throws with three seconds left, to give the 11th-seeded Badgers their victory.
Number-six Illinois came back from 10 points down to go up by three with 3:42 left, but they couldn’t hold on.
Wisconsin made all 21 of its free throws. Paige went 10-for-10 from the line. She scored 18 on the afternoon, and Jacki Gulczynski added 15. The Badgers out-rebounded Illinois 41-29.
Cassie Rochel pulled down 13 boards and scored 10 for Wisconsin, which improved to 12-and-18. Ivory Crawford scored 14 for the Illini, which dropped to 16-and-13.
The Badgers will play Purdue this afternoon in the quarter-finals.
