MOSINEE, Wis. (WSAU) - Mosinee residents will be moving to weekly recycling pickups under a new plan from the city.
That change comes out of the waste sorting event that was held last fall in conjunction with IROW and the Marathon County Solid Waste department. Solid Waste director Meleesa Johnson says this an effort to increase the amount people recycle. "We saw information that some people weren't recycling because their bins were full, so they tossed what was left in the trash." Over 20 percent of the garbage in that truck could have been recycled and kept out of a landfill.
Johnson says the move could be a very positive one for the city which has to pay tipping fees to the county for the trash it collects. "Each bit of garbage that's being recycled is less money they have to pay." She says that the dollars and cents saved for the city by each resident's recycling can really add up over time.
The new changes will take effect April 1st, and residents will be receiving more information in the mail.
