AUBURN HILLS, MI (WHTC-Holland, MI) - It wasn't home cooking, but it was the next best thing for both Michigan State and Michigan on Saturday.

The Spartans and Wolverines cruised to third round victories in the NCAA basketball tournament at the Palace of Auburn Hills. U-M started first and disposed of Virginia Commonwealth, 78-53. Mitch McGary led the Maize and Blue with 21 points and 14 rebounds.

Following that game, MSU came out and throttled Memphis, 70-48. Gary Harris had 23 points for the Green and White.

Put on opposite sides of the bracket that would keep them from facing each other until the national championship game in Atlanta on April 8, Michigan State and Michigan will wait until tomorrow night's action before knowing who their next opponent will be. MSU will face either Duke or Creighton in the Midwest Regional semifinal at Indianapolis next Friday evening. U-M tackles the Kansas-North Carolina winner in the South Regional semifinal at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, also next Friday evening.
