Rogers Struggles As Brewers Split With Rockies

by

MARYVALE, AZ (WSAU) The Milwaukee Brewers scored five runs in the sixth inning yesterday, and then held on to beat Colorado 7-to-5 in split-squad exhibition game in Phoenix. A second Milwaukee squad lost to San Diego 6-to-4.

The rally over the Rockies consisted of four singles, a sacrifice bunt, a sac fly, and a run-scoring error. Ryan Braun had an R-B-I double in that game. He said the Brewers are ready for the regular season to begin a week from today – when the Crew opens against the Rockies at Miller Park.

But Milwaukee right-hander Mark Rogers is not ready. Manager Ron Roenicke says Rogers is still having trouble with his command and velocity, after giving up two runs in a three-inning start with two hits, two walks, and a pair of strikeouts. Rogers was a candidate for Milwaukee’s rotation – but now, the Brewers are either looking to put him in the bullpen or on disabled list to see what’s troubling his arm. Rogers is out of minor league options.

In the loss to the Padres, Brewers’ starter Wily Peralta gave up six runs in five-and-a-third innings. Donnie Murphy hit a two-run homer. The Brewers are now 10-16-and-2 this spring. They’ll play Oakland this afternoon.
