MARYVALE, AZ (WSAU) Starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo threw a solid 6-1/3 innings and allowed only two hits, in a 9-1 win over Kansas City.

There was plenty of offense for the Brewers, with home runs from Alex Gonzales and Hainley Statia.

Prior to the game, the Brewers placed first baseman Corey Hart (meniscus) and in-fielder Jeff Bianchi (hip) on the 15-day disabled list. The Brewers announced utility infielder Yuniesky Betancourt has passed his physical exam yesterday (WEN) and has signed a one-year contract with the team.

The signing also triggered the release of infielder Donnie Murphy, who asked for release of his minor league contract. Manager Ron Roenicke says it came down to familiarity between "Yuni" and Murphy.
