Shooting incident in western Wisconsin remains under investigation

SOMERSET, WI (WSAU-Wheeler News) -  Investigators are still looking into a shooting incident that happened Tuesday morning. The victim is 53-year-old Jerry Cusick.  He is a Washington County Minnesota Sheriff’s Commander who was off duty. Cusick was scouting for turkeys on private property when he was shot in the head, face, neck, and shoulder with a single shotgun blast.  Cusick managed to get to a neighboring residence to seek help.  He was transported to the hospital by Lakeview EMS Ambulance.

The shooter was Anthony Cardarelli from White Bear Lake, Minnesota. St. Croix County Sheriff John Shilts says they have no information at this point showing that Cardarelli intended to shoot a person, but says he has great concern that Cardarelli did not properly identify his target prior to shooting.

Cusick is in good condition at Regions Hospital in the Twin Cities. The incident remains under investigation by St. Croix County officials.
