Ramirez Returns To Brewers Roster

by

MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) Aramis Ramirez returned yesterday from a strained left knee that kept him out for a month. But the Brewers’ third baseman won’t play until tonight at the earliest – and manager Ron Roenicke says it might be awhile before Ramirez plays a full game, or on back-to-back days.

Ramirez is Milwaukee’s normal clean-up hitter. He’s coming off the same injury he suffered at Spring Training when he slid into a bag. He was only out for two weeks back then – but Roenicke has said another re-occurrence could keep him out for much longer, so he’ll be used with caution.

To make room for Ramirez on the roster, the Brewers sent utility player Josh Prince down to Triple-“A” Nashville. Prince has only made five plate appearances since being called up April sixth, when Ramirez went on the disabled list. John Axford has lost his job as the Brewers’ eighth inning set-up man. Manager Ron Roenicke now says he’ll keep Jim Henderson in the closer’s role – and all of the other relievers will be used according to the hitting matchups they face.

Axford started the season as Milwaukee’s closer, but he lost the job after giving up nine runs in his first four outings. On Thursday, he gave up four runs in the eighth inning of a Brewers’ home loss to Pittsburgh – and the Milwaukee fans booed him loudly as his record fell to 0-and-3.
