WASHINGTON D.C. (WTAQ) - The U.S. House of Representatives made history Friday by issuing a congressional ID to Wisconsin Congressman Mark Pocan’s husband.
That identification is only issued to the spouses of federal lawmakers.
Pocan and Philip Frank were married in Canada in 2006.
A congressional ID was issued four years ago to the same-sex partner of another member of Congress, but notification was then given the ID had been issued in error.
Pocan says the ID is symbolic and Frank still won’t get spousal benefits awarded to the other congressional marriage partners.
