JANESVILLE, WI (WTAQ) - With calls for the SWAT team increasing dramatically, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office has bought an armored vehicle.
County officials say they are continuing to deal with heavily-armed suspects and the $195,000 armored personnel carrier has made it easier to safely deploy and rescue officers during high-risk situations.
The 18,000 pound vehicle didn’t cost taxpayers anything.
Money seized from drug dealers is being used to buy the 2009 model truck and equip it with the technology needed.
The vehicle will go into service Friday. It will be on display for the public a week from Thursday at the county board meeting.
