WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - The only son of famed lumberman D.C. Everest has died.
DC "Clark" Everest Junior died on Wednesday at the age of 91. He was born in 1918, twelve years after his father settled into the Wausau area and helped start the paper industry by managing the Marathon Paper Mill plant in Rothschild. He and his family will likely be remembered for years for the name they left in the community, both with the Everest school district named in his honor as well as the growing Everest Metro police department in Wausau's south metro area.
Everest Jr. was a member of the Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. Everest moved away for several years before coming back to the Wausau area in 2004 and setting back home. He and his wife Katheryn would travel during the winter months.
His family is planning a private service.
