WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) - You can race with your furry friends this Saturday in Rib Mountain with the Marathon County Humane Society.

Run for Their Lives is their third annual competitive 5K at Doepke Park. Shelter director Mary Kirlin says the run was a natural progression for the shelter. "A lot of our dog walkers were wondering if we had any dogs that like to run and we already had Paws on the Path and this was just the next venue to go up to."

This is a chip-timed race, and Kirlin says there's some very competitive people that like to get their times in. But the twist is the 5K race with your dog. "One is for the hardcore runners, they start and then 10 minutes later those who are taking a pet or don't want to run with the fast guys can still get timed on the 5K."

Registration starts at 7:30 AM at Doepke Park. The competitive race starts at 9:00 am and the fun run with dogs starts at 9:10. If you are bringing a dog, make sure they're friendly with other dogs and that they are vaccinated and have their tags.
