MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) - The Wisconsin Badgers skated to a 3-3 tie, officially, with Lake Superior State at the Kohl Center. Unofficially, Lake Superior State won the shootout after the overtime period. The shootout wasn’t official, but did take six shooters until State could take care of business.
The first period was all Lake Superior State as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead early. The second period had better production from Bucky, as the Badgers outshot their opponents but failed to score.
In the third period of regulation, the Badgers fought their way back with two goals by Tyler Barnes and another by Michael Mersch. The final goal came after the Wisconsin Coach Mike Eaves pulled the goalie to add an attacker with ninety seconds left in regulation.
Goalie Landon Peterson had 22 saves in the net for Wisconsin. Kevin Kapalka had 41 saves for Lake Superior State.
The two teams drop the puck again Saturday night in Madison.
