Flynn Signs On As Back-Up

GREEN BAY, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) Matt Flynn is back with the Green Bay Packers.  Various media reports said the sixth-year pro signed with the team last evening, as an apparent backup to Scott Tolzien.

Packers' coach Mike McCarthy re-iterated yesterday that Tolzien would make his first N-F-L start on Sunday against the Giants at New York.  Tolzien, the former U-W Badger standout, threw for 280 yards and a touchdown in last Sunday's Packer home loss to Philadelphia.

McCarthy said Flynn looked good during his workout with the team yesterday.  His biggest advantage is that he knows the Packer offense, which has changed little since he left as a free agent at the end of the 2011 season.  Offensive coordinator Tom Clements said the terminology and the basic plays are the same.

Flynn is reported to have problems with an elbow -- and any questions about his ability to play will be answered during the practices for the Giants game which begin tomorrow.

Meanwhile, there are questions about what will happen with Seneca Wallace, the original backup to the injured Aaron Rodgers.  Wallace injured a groin in the game two days ago, but McCarthy said he still could have played in an emergency.  Wallace played just one series against the Eagles.

Also, media reports said the Packers were planning to bring in veteran quarterback John Skelton today.  He was with Cincinnati and San Francisco earlier in the year.  Before that, Skelton started 17 games with Arizona over three years.
