DNR warns deer hunters about feral pigs

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Wisconsin deer hunters are being told to watch out for wild pigs.

They've been causing problems in the Badger State for well over a decade, and they're considered dangerous.

Feral pigs have been found in at least 51 of the state's 72 counties since 1997, carrying diseases that affect people and normal farm pigs.

The DNR says licensed hunters can shoot wild pigs any day of the year except the Friday before the nine-day gun deer season, which begins a week from Saturday.

Landowners don't need a license to shoot feral pigs on their property. The DNR is asking hunters to report any wild pigs they see.

Anyone who shoots feral pigs is asked to contact the DNR, so experts can test them.
