UNDATED (WSAU) There are power outages in Central Wisconsin because of high winds. As of 7am Wisconsin Public Service reports 8,400 of their customers without electricity.
Stevens Point is hardest hit, with about 3,000 customers off-line. Another 800 are off-line in Merrill and 700 others have no power in Junction City. There are scattered outages also reported around Pelican Lake, Rhinelander, Elcho and Eagle River.
Most of the outages are from downed tree limbs that fell across power lines. WPS says forested areas have fared worse because of gusty conditions. Crews are working on power restoration this morning, although its not clear how long it will take until everyone is back on-line.
UPDATE: Power has been restored in Stevens Point as of 7:30am CT. The number of customers in other areas without power is down to about 3,000.
UPDATE: As of noon today, the number of WPS customers without power is down to about 900.
