Gov. Scott Walker to participate in deer hunt on Monday

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Governor Scott Walker will join hundreds of thousands of other deer hunters in the nine-day gun season that begins Saturday.

His spokesman Tom Evenson says the Republican governor will hunt with a group of friends on Monday in Washington County.

Walker is a possible GOP presidential candidate for 2016. Unlike some White House candidates who've passed this way, Walker is an experienced deer hunter -- and he has used his office to try and improve the state's deer hunting culture.

In 2004, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry raised hunters' eyebrows when he said in Wisconsin he'd go out with, "my trusty 12-gauge double-barrel, and crawl around on my stomach."

Actually, the tree stand and the walking deer drive are among the most popular ways to root out the Wisconsin deer.
