WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) Wausau officials will begin citing landlords for 'nuisance properties' starting next week. They'll be targeting rentals with multiple code violations and police calls. The owners of those properties could face fines between $1,000 and $2,500.
City ordinance considers a property a nuisance if police are called to the premises on three separate occasions over a 6-month period. After being cited, the property owner has 15-days to make improvements or be fined.
Wausau police say they have about 50 properties that are considered nuisances, and about half have been making improvements before the crackdown goes into effect.
