GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The state DOT is getting pictures of license plates, to find out the extent of unregistered vehicles in Wisconsin.
The agency has hired a private contractor to photograph 22-hundred vehicles in eight counties.
They're checking for the colored stickers which vehicles are supposed to have on the lower right corner of their rear plates.
Mail surveys will sent to about 500 homes. And then the DOT will examine the results, and see if the registration process can be made more convenient and-or cost-effective.
The survey is expected to be completed by next summer.
DOT motor vehicle program specialist Vikki VanDeventer tells Fox 11 in Green Bay that those caught without current registrations will not get penalized with citations.
