MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Two men are accused of stealing almost $65,000 of industrial copper wire, so they could sell it for scrap.
49-year-old William Rogers of Milwaukee told authorities he used his share of the money to buy crack cocaine.
Waukesha County prosecutors said Rogers and 48-year-old Dennis Hardwick of Milwaukee stole 46 spools of copper wire -- each weighing about 300 pounds -- from the Harley-Davidson plant in Menomonee Falls since August 1st.
Prosecutors said three men were seen on security footage last weekend. The third man reportedly denied stealing the cooper wire, but said he opened a plant door to let Rogers use a restroom.
Hardwick is charged with felony theft, and he's due back in court October 24th when he's expected to have an attorney.
For now, he's free on a signature bond. Online court records do not list any new charges against Rogers yet.
