GREEN BAY, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) Green Bay Packers' starting safety Morgan Burnett returned to practice on a limited basis today. But coach Mike McCarthy says it's too early to tell whether he can play on Sunday against Washington at Lambeau Field.
The Packers have two more practices, and McCarthy says he'll take the entire time to evaluate Burnett and then make his decision. After last Sunday's loss at San Francisco, McCarthy said he wished Burnett could have played. He was replaced by a pair of second-year safeties who gave up the lion's share of the 412 passing yards from San Francisco's Colin Kaepernick.
Also, tight end Jermichael Finley missed Wednesday's practice with a toe injury. McCarthy says Finley expects to return on Friday. Left guard Josh Sitton continues to recover from a bad back -- and McCarthy says he doesn't have a handle on that yet.
The coach also said he would spend the week deciding who the Packers' kick returner should be. Randall Cobb handled most punt returns last Sunday, while Jeremy Ross handled kickoffs.
Micah Hyde, Tramon Williams, and Johnathan Franklin are also getting auditions this week for the return jobs.
