SentryWorld sports center undergoing renovations

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) - Residents and visitors to Stevens Point will go nearly two full summers without golfing at SentryWorld Golf Course, but when it reopens, expect some changes inside the Sports Center facility, too.

Sentry’s Communications Director Stephanie Smith says the building that houses the pro shop, Sports Plate restaurant, tennis courts, and meeting areas is now closed, and work has begun. “Construction started earlier this week, and the entire facility is undergoing some extensive renovation. Both the side where the pro shop, restaurant, and the banquet and meeting rooms are as well as the side where we have the multi-purpose courts.”

The golf course renovations have been underway since early spring. Smith says the modifications and updates to the building will help make it a destination for many types of events. “This is a great opportunity since construction has to take place to think about how we can deliver an even better experience for central Wisconsin residents and people who come from across the region to SentryWorld.”

Smith says the building is now thirty years old, and needs some upgrades like heating and ventilation upgrades. She says Sentry officials felt this was the perfect time to re-imagine the facility and make it better and more flexible than it was before. “It will offer casual dining, it will have more flexible meeting spaces for business events, conventions, and weddings. The pro shop will be enhanced and more kinds of activities, whether cultural events & sporting events will be possible.”

The Sentry Sports Complex will remain closed while the updates and improvements are added. “The facility will open in conjunction with the golf course, and if mother nature cooperates and construction goes well, that will be late next summer.”

Sentry Board Chairman, President and CEO Pete McPartland says, “We want to engage local residents and get a sense of how they want to use SentryWorld,” and believes the community will be extremely proud of the facility and the golf course when completed. Ideas for the renovation are welcome. Smith says to watch for a comment section soon at Sentry.com and their Facebook page.
