Man who kidnapped his daughter and dies in crash identified

by

MERRILL, Wis. (WSAU) - Authorities have released the identity of the man that tried eluding police after kidnapping his infant daughter. He was 23-year-old Justin Eichelt of Lublin, Wisconsin. Eichelt was not wearing a seatbelt, and was ejected and killed when his car struck another vehicle and entered the ditch. He was being pursued by Lincoln County deputies when the crash occurred at 4:29 p.m. Both the child and 18-year-old Amber Kubitz of Weston were hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.

The baby girl was supposed to be turned over to Taylor County social services officials for appropriate treatment and placement, since she was born drug dependent. Authorities will not say if Kubitz is the child’s mother or not.

The crash happened on Highway W near Center Road outside of Merrill. The crash investigation and reconstruction is being done by Wisconsin State Patrol and Marathon County Sheriff’s Department, since Lincoln County was in pursuit of the vehicle when it crashed.
