MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) - You've got about a month to apply for the state's third round of Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin agriculture grants.
Proposals for the grants are due October 21st. Program manager Teresa Engel says the aim of the grants is to support local food sales and support in the state. "Ultimately we really want these proposed projects to be driven by and supported by local producers in Wisconsin."
The grants are designed to help support the local food chain in Wisconsin communities and Engle says their goal is to push food dollars back into the economy. "We want to encourage all types of agriculture. The local food market is a growing market in Wisconsin and we want to continue to help make that thrive."
Pre-proposals need to include a cover page, budget template and three-page project description. Engel says these grants are applicable to all phases of approved projects. "It can be the beginning step, the actual distribution of the product, it can be the processing of the product, it can be the marketing of the product."
The grants will be selected and awarded in early 2014. $200,000 worth of grants will be awarded on a In-Kind basis for the projects. You can find the grant manual online at http://datcp.wi.gov/Business/Buy_Local_Buy_Wisconsin/BLBW_Grants/.
