Pittsville OWI arrest leaves deputy bit by dogs

PITTSVILLE, Wis. (WDLB) - Most police officers will tell you, there is no such thing as a simple, everyday traffic stop because there is always a possibility of an unknown danger. One of those dangerous situations happened in Pittsville Thursday afternoon shortly after 5:00 p.m.

A Wood County Sheriff's Deputy is recovering after being attacked by two pit bull dogs.

Sheriff Tom Reichert says the deputy initiated a traffic stop in the 83-hundred block of Veedum Street, when 48-year-old Cora Fuller ran from her vehicle and into her home.

Fuller eventually did come out. When she did, her two pit bulls came running from the house and attacked the deputy. The deputy was bitten several times, but was able to get two shots off, injuring both dogs, before fleeing to his squad car for safety.

The deputy was treated for multiple dogs bites at Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids, and then released.

Fuller was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, her fourth offense.

One of the dogs had to be euthanized because of the injuries sustained during the ordeal. The other dog will recover.
