RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU) — A Madison man is in custody after a high-speed chase through Oneida County on Sunday night.
25-year-old Sanome Wheelock was caught speeding at 92 miles-per-hour at about 7:20 p.m. and accelerated to 120 miles-per-hour when a Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop him.
Wheelock eventually abandoned his car and stole another about an hour and forty-five minutes later, heading towards Highway 47. During this second phase of the chase, Wheelock crossed the center line and struck another vehicle. He left on foot again before being aprehended.
Wheelock has been charged with operating while revoked and operating while intoxicated, along with three counts of reckless driving endangering safety, two counts of vehicle operator flee / attempt to elude officer, and operating without owner’s consent. He awaits a court hearing tomorrow, October 24th.
