WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) The Wausau Board of Education finalized its new policy on music selections for holiday concerts. Music teachers are required to work as a group to pick the songs that will be performed. The policy also allows for community input.
There was a controversy last fall over religious-themed music for holiday concerts. Some elementary schools postponed their concerts until the spring, and the Wausau-West Master Singers disbanded for a short time after their repertoire was questioned.
The new policy says that a district-wide community board will meet with music teachers once a year in case there are disagreements.
