GREEN BAY, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) U-W Green Bay men's basketball coach Brian Wardle has agreed to a new five-year contract. Athletic director Mary Ellen Gillespie said today that Wardle -- a former Marquette assistant -- has done an outstanding job in his four seasons with the Phoenix, and she wants to make sure the team keeps moving forward.
Wardle is 71-and-56 in four seasons at Green Bay. He was named the Horizon League's coach-of-the-year after the Phoenix won the regular season crown in March. Green Bay was one of the last four schools to be eliminated from the N-C-A-A Field-of-68.
The team went 24-and-7 last season, with its first N-I-T bid in 22 years. More recently, Wardle was mentioned as a possible candidate for the Marquette coaching job that went to Steve Wojciechowski.
